Post-Protestant Era?

Posted by susanb99 on April 15, 2013

There is a deep chasm between the Protestant doctrinal beliefs and those of Catholics:

Scriptural Salvation/Regeneration: by God’s grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ

RCC Salvation/Regeneration: through the RCC sacrament of baptism

Scriptural Sanctification: by God’s grace through obedience to God via Scripture

RCC Sanctification: good works, merited grace, sacraments (Eucharist, confession, etc); all sanctification is accomplished through RCC

In 1517, when Martin Luther nailed 95 theses to the door of a German church, the Roman Catholic Church did not appreciate his inquiries into their non-biblical religious practices. That was the starting point of the Reformation, a separation of the Protestants from the RCC.

The RCC has been apostate since about the year 300AD. They claim they are the true Church, that no one can be saved except through the Church.

See RCC Salvation chart for more information regarding the RCC’s Salvation Plan

A devout Catholic, Tom Peterson, has created a website, Catholics Come Home (CCH), whose purpose is to bring lapsed Catholics back into the RCC and to lure Protestants into the same snare. After clicking on the door, I Am Not Catholic, the website gives you the option of viewing their apologetics section which answers common questions.

One of the questions on the CCH site is the following:

Why do Catholics call Mary the Queen of Heaven? Doesn’t God rebuke the Israelites in the O.T. for worshipping a false goddess called the Queen of Heaven? Should we not refer to Mary with that title, therefore, since it is the title of a false goddess?

Their answer is:

In Jeremiah 7:18, God is indeed upset with the Israelites for worshipping a false goddess called the “queen of heaven”. However, just because God rebuked them for worshipping the false queen of heaven, doesn’t mean that we cannot pay honor to the true Queen of Heaven…the Blessed Mother.
That type of thinking would lead you to believe that just because people worship a false god that they call “god,” we, therefore, should not call the true God, by that same name…God…because that’s the same title the idolaters use for their god! That is faulty logic and it makes no sense whatsoever.
Again, the fact that there is a false “queen of heaven”, does not lead to the conclusion that we worship a false goddess when we call Mary the “Queen of Heaven.” Just as the fact that there is a false “god”, does not lead to the conclusion that we worship a false god when we call our Father in Heaven, God.
And there is a true Queen of Heaven, we see this quite clearly in Revelation 12:1, “And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars…” Let’s see. There’s a woman…she’s in Heaven…and she has a crown on her head. I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s the maid! No! It is the true Queen of Heaven, Mary, the mother of the male child who is to rule the nations.
We do not worship Mary, we honor her, just as Jesus honors her. So, there is absolutely nothing wrong, from a scriptural point of view, in calling Mary the Queen of Heaven, and in honoring her just as Jesus honors her.

The Queen of Heaven is a false god. The “true Queen of Heaven” isn’t found anywhere in Scripture. Using the same defective analysis, we could draw the conclusion from IKings 18 that there is a true god of Baal, and the 450 prophets of Baal were mistakenly praying to the false Baal god.

In Revelation, John writes of a “great sign (or portent) in heaven”, of a woman (Mary) who gave birth to a Son (Jesus) Who was not consumed by the red dragon (satan). The Son then was “caught up unto God and to His throne” and the woman ran into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God. The Son and the woman are not ruling in heaven together. That is a blatant lie fabricated by the RCC to keep its followers enslaved by false gods.

Other questions and answers on the CCH site are similar. The Catholics provide feeble responses to the serious questions that are introduced when comparing the infallibility of Scripture with the RCC traditions and sacraments. The RCC exegesis is analogous to a 10-year-old trying to justify his belief that the earth is flat.

Another way the Roman Catholics are trying to appeal to Protestants is through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) was started in 1967 by students and faculty members of a Catholic Pittsburgh university.

Some of the Catholics who were initially part of the CCR have been regenerated by the Spirit of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone, in direct conflict with the Catholic sacraments of baptism (Catholic salvation) and sanctification. They have left the Roman Catholic Church and its bondage to live their lives in the liberty of Christ.

Many others in the CCR continue to be identified as “Catholic Christians”, an oxymoronic expression that evidences the Protestant Pentecostal’s and Charismatic’s persistent ignorance of incompatible doctrinal beliefs.

Even though it is unmistakably obvious that the RCC beliefs are diametrically contrary to the biblical Protestant doctrines, many Protestants believe that through their efforts, “unity in the spirit” can be realized by means of “the baptism of the Holy Spirit”. But by which “spirit” is this unity achieved? The real Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, the One Who leads us into truth, the One Who convicts sinners of their rebellion to the One true God and draws the sinner to repentance through Jesus Christ. The real Spirit of God does not exist in a person who has not been regenerated by that same Spirit. The Catholic holy spirit continues to bring sinners into the Roman Catholic Church so they may complete the sacramental works of a dead religion.

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland support the endeavors of this false spirit. As noted in this post, Tony Palmer is a former director of Kenneth Copeland Ministries (KCM) and has been invited by the RCC to minister to Catholics within the CCR. (See KCM article here) The Copelands have also traveled to the RCC in Italy on more than one occasion to minister. Since the Roman Catholic religion is poles apart from the biblical doctrines of salvation and sanctification, how could they possibly be invited by the RCC to teach the basic tenets of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Anyone who financially supports the Copelands enables the Copeland’s efforts in assisting the RCC to dismantle the effects of the Reformation, with the purpose of ending the “protestant era”.

How will the “protestant era” supposedly “end”? The new pope, Francis I, is a Jesuit, a member of the Society of Jesus founded by Ignatius of Loyola who composed the Spiritual Exercises which are used by the Jesuits to this day. In becoming a Jesuit, all members of the Society of Jesus including Pope Francis, must take the Extreme Oath of Induction. Do not click on the sources of the Extreme Oath if you do not wish to see the graphically vivid wording. Part of the blood oath is posted here:

I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition… (Source 1; Source 2 pages 22-23)

Anyone who is not Roman Catholic is to be “exterminated”. Pope Francis likely will not go to such lengths to remove the Protestants etc., but he absolutely is not pro-unity. He will appear to be so, but beware. He is quoted as saying:

It makes me think that the Paraclete makes all the differences in the Churches and seems to be an apostle of Babel. But, on the other hand, [the Holy Spirit] is the one who makes unity of these differences, not in equality, but in harmony. I remember the Church Father who defined it thus: ‘Ipse harmonia est.’ This Paraclete who gives, to each of us, different gifts, unites us in this Church community that worships the Father, the Son, and Him, the Holy Spirit.”(Source) (bolding added)

The division between the Catholics and Protestants continues to be strong, from the time of the Reformation to this present day. God has irrevocably mandated His plan of salvation and that cannot and will not be changed by man’s whim of “unity in the spirit”.

Common Errors in Biblical Interpretation Exposed

An article from cicministry.org:

Common Errors in Biblical Interpretation Exposed

Ways the Scriptures are Often Misinterpreted
by Bob DeWaay

The Bible, history’s most published, studied, translated and quoted book, is also its most misused and misinterpreted book. Cults and false religions use it to their own ends and others simply misinterpret it. That this occurs so often leads many to assume the Bible has no clear meaning. This is a false assumption. That any given passage is misunderstood, purposely or otherwise, does not demonstrate that the author of the passage had no clear meaning in mind. Nor does it follow that the readers cannot discern this meaning. In this article we will expose common errors in Biblical interpretation and show how to avoid them. Continue Reading…

EAT PRAY LOVE Movie: The “New” Spirituality

Posted by susanb99 on May 26, 2010

From Lighthouse Trails:

On May 24th, on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Julia Roberts joined Oprah to promote the upcoming film, Eat, Pray, Love, based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s New York Times Best Selling book with the same name. The movie will be released this summer and will most likely be a box office hit with Roberts starring in the film and Brad Pitt producing. Sadly, the message in Gilbert’s book is a New Age one that encourages eastern meditation as a way to find peace and fulfillment in life.

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection

Posted by susanb99 on April 11, 2009

Isaiah 53:3-5

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

John 20:1-18

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Memorizing the Bible

I have added a new page to this site (see tab above) to download a PDF file which explains how to memorize scripture.

I would recommend this approach for anyone who is interested in scripture memorization and for those who are weary of fumbling around looking for a particular verse.

Emergent MIND Change

Posted by susanb99 on April 25, 2008

From Herescope:

“A new world, as the mystics have always said, is a new mind.”
-Marilyn Ferguson, The Aquarian Conspiracy:Personal and Social Transformation in the 1980s
(J.P. Tarcher, 1980), p. 36 [emphasis added]
“The mystery of the creative/intuitive mind is underscored in the ‘perennial wisdom‘, which finds the deep intuition connected to the one Universal Mind. Thus there are indeed no limits to its capabilities save those the individual creates as part of the resistance to discovering one’s godlike qualities. Furthermore, because of this connection to the All, problem solutions, which come from the deep intuition will be solutions that benefit all, not one at the expense of others.”

– Willis Harman, Global Mind Change: The New Age Revolution in the Way We Think
(Warner Books, 1988), p. 88 [emphasis added]

Dr. Dennis Cuddy, in his bi-weekly NewsWithViews column on April 7 made a startling observation. Cuddy, an historian and author with expertise in the mental health arena, noticed that there were similarities in Brian McLaren‘s new book everything must change: Jesus, Global Crises, and a Revolution of Hope and Eckhart Tolle‘s new book touted by Oprah’s Book Club, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. Both authors define mental illness in terms of wrong belief systems which are harming the planet:

McLaren in his book continued to explain that this failed Christian religion’s threats of hell “lose their effect when those making the threats seem a little defensive, deranged, out of touch, manic…..” Note that he’s saying they are mentally ill! This is similar to New Ager Marilyn Ferguson in THE AQUARIAN CONSPIRACY: PERSONAL AND SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE 1980s (1980) saying that if people will get rid of “crippling belief systems,” they can have a “transformation of consciousness” and find “sanity within.” More recently, it sounds like Eckhart Tolle’s A NEW EARTH: AWAKENING TO YOUR LIFE’S PURPOSE (2005) promoted by Oprah’s Book Club. He asserts that all of those expressing the certainty that “I am right and you are wrong” are a “dangerous thing in religions.” It reflects a “collective mental illness.” Tolle characterizes “sin” as simply “missing the point” of human existence and suggests that “Eastern wisdom teachings” allow us to “let go of dogmas” and “rigid belief systems.” He also relates that in THE HOLY BIBLE “a new heaven” actually refers to “the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness.” Note again the terms “mental illness” and “transformed.” (“Transformation by Crises and Synthesis”)

Indeed the two books do bear a basic similarity in their underlying premise that man’s belief systems (i.e., particularly orthodox Christian theology) are deranged and need to undergo a basic “shift” that will result in “transformation” necessary for the survival of the planet.

Channeling God

Posted by susanb99 on April 14, 2008

Channeling – the practice of professedly entering a meditative or trancelike state in order to convey messages from a spiritual guide. (dictionary.com)

There are many examples today of channeling. A Course in Miracles was “scribed” by Dr. Helen Schucman through a process of inner dictation she identified as coming from Jesus. Over a period of seven years, Dr. Schucman transcribed these thoughts into the curriculum which is now being promoted by Marianne Williamson and Oprah Winfrey among others. Included in the course are these teachings:

  • “There is no sin. . . “9
  • A “slain Christ has no meaning.”10
  • “The journey to the cross should be the last ‘useless journey.’”11
  • “Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross.’”12
  • “The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol. . . . It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray.”13
  • “God is in everything I see.”14
  • “The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself.”15
  • “The oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power.”16
  • “The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation.”17
  • (from an article by Warren Smith, posted on Herescope)

By comparing scripture with the claims of A Course In Miracles, one can see immediately that this curriculum must be avoided if one is truly a born-again Bible-believing Christian. This teaching is a “doctrine of demons”, a doctrine that came directly from a demon who Dr. Schucman called “Jesus”.

Another example is “The Secret, The Law of Attraction”. The Secret was originally written by Esther Hicks who channels “Abraham”, a group of spirit guides or “entities”. To harness the power of “the secret”, one must think positively, which changes one’s environment and events positively. A person becomes a magnet for “good things”. So what’s wrong with thinking positively? Nothing, as long as one is “bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (II Corinthians 10:5). What does Jesus Christ have to do with The Secret? Absolutely nothing. Anyone can use the method and be successful, all without Jesus Christ. The Secret also teaches that a person can become One with the universe. If anyone can become a “good”, spiritual person by circumventing the doctrines and teachings of Jesus Christ, then The Secret teachings are unbiblical and heretical. Just the fact that this spirituall process came from demons should keep any Christian away from the material.

Another example is Bob Jones, a prophet from the Elijah List. He has prophecied many times, but his “words from God” do not match scripture. Last year, he prophecied about “green stones with fire” and compared these falling green stones, that fell from the ceiling at a church meeting, to the Holy Spirit. Read the prophecy here. His prophecy is a convoluted, entangled mash of Latter Rain theology, New Age thought, and just plain make-it-up-as-I-go philosophy. His words are supposedly from God. Which god? Where did he get this heretical information? He is getting these “words” from some entity that is NOT the true God of the Bible. Try reading his prophecy and comparing it to scripture — it doesn’t stand a chance.

Just recently, Kim Clement of the Elijah List gave a prophecy regarding Barack Obama. Included in the prophecy is this quote from “God”:

For God said, “Even though you may think this or that, there is an element of righteousness inside of him [Obama] to reach out for Jesus…

That is unscriptural. Our righteousness is but “filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). We are made righteous through Jesus Christ — there is no other Way. Kim Clement’s “god” contradicts the Word of God. Again, comparing the teachings/writings to scripture shows that they fall flat.

In all the examples in this article, one just needs to open a Bible and see that these teachings are heretical and lead one away from God and Jesus Christ. The authors in each of these cases are “channeling” a god, an entity that teaches contrary to scripture — demons that lead people down the broad road to destruction.

Oprah’s Gospel – ‘The Church of Oprah Exposed’ Video

    Posted by susanb99 on April 9, 2008

Here is the real story regarding The Church of Oprah Exposed video, a promotion for the book “Don’t Drink The Koolaid”,  which has been removed from this site.

    From Herescope:
    A Disclaimer
    […]
Recently a link to a YouTube site proclaiming “Oprah’s Church Exposed” was widely disseminated via email and the Internet. We do not know the original source of this viral networking event. This sensationalist-style video referred recipients to a book entitled “Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid: Oprah, Obama and the Occult” authored by a woman by the name of Carrington Steele. We listened to several radio interviews done by Ms. Steele and were shocked to realize there these were being used in a malicious way against the Barack Obama campaign. It appears that this video and book were produced for the purpose of influencing the upcoming presidential elections…. Read More…

    From Lighthouse Trails Blog:
BOOK REVIEW: An Honest Look At “Don’t Drink the Kool-aid”
On March 3rd, a book titled Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid was released by author Carrington Steele. The book, subtitled Oprah, Obama and the Occult, seeks to document Oprah’s ties to the occult and the New Age religion. Since its release, Steele has had several radio interviews, and a promotional video on YouTube has received over two and a half million hits. Steele’s efforts to alert Christians and the public are noteworthy. However, after a thorough examination of this book, Lighthouse Trails must issue a public warning.

Last week, Lighthouse Trails was contacted by two other ministries who brought up issues regarding the use of their material in Steele’s book. Upon reading Steele’s work ourselves, our editors discovered that the 80-page book was filled with verbatim passages copied from other writers material, which was presented as Steele’s own authorship. Because of the sensationalistic overtones of the book (e.g., comparing Oprah to Jim Jones who gave poisoned Kool-aid to over 900 people), and because plagiarism most often ignores the original context and authorial intent of the material copied but is not ethically credited, Lighthouse Trails cannot, in good conscience, promote Steele’s book…. Oprah and Eckhart Do the New Age Shift – Part 4

    Posted by susanb99 on April 2, 2008

    From Herescope Blog:

    by Warren Smith

“The good old minister went into the room where the swindlers sat before the empty looms. ‘Heaven preserve us!’ he thought, and opened his eyes wide, “I cannot see anything at all,” but he did not say so. Both swindlers requested him to come near, and asked him if he did not admire the exquisite pattern and the beautiful colours, pointing to the empty looms. The poor old minister tried his very best, but he could see nothing, for there was nothing to be seen. ‘Oh dear,’ he thought, ‘can I be so stupid? I should never have thought so, and nobody must know it! Is it possible that I am not fit for my office? No, no, I cannot say that I was unable to see the cloth.”1
    – Hans Christian Andersen
    The Emperor’s New Suit

Tolle and the Queen’s ‘New’ Suit of Clothes

In the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” some swindlers convince the Emperor and his ministers to see a suit of clothes that is actually non-existent. These swindlers convince the Emperor and his ministers by telling them that only “intelligent,” well-informed citizens can see the suit. Publicity about the Emperor’s “new” suit went out unto all the kingdom as people were told what they were supposed to see. The people realized that if they were to be perceived as “smart” and not seem “stupid” they would see this suit of clothes. And, of course, no one wanted to be perceived as stupid. Soon it was publicized throughout the kingdom that the Emperor would be showing off his “new” suit of clothes in a public procession several days hence. When the day came, the naked Emperor walked among his people and received unanimous acclaim for his new suit of clothes. The people saw what they had been told to see. “Isn’t absolutely wonderful,” all the people proclaimed. “The emperor is all dressed up in his new suit of clothes.”Everyone was so taken by the Emperor’s “new” suit of clothes, they barely heard the little boy who hadn’t been told what he was supposed to see. “But the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes,” said the lad. “The emperor is naked.”

Several people heard the boy and realized that what he was saying was true. Suddenly everyone’s eyes were opened and they realized they had been tricked into seeing something that wasn’t even there. The Emperor wasn’t wearing a new suit of clothes. He was as naked as the day that he was born. Swindlers had deceived the Emperor, his ministers, and almost the whole kingdom with their clever scheme.

And so it is with the “New” Age/”New” Spirituality and Oprah Winfrey. Widely regarded as the “Queen” of the airwaves, Oprah has been deceived into seeing a “New” Age/”New” Spirituality “suit of clothes” that simply isn’t there. The Queen’s advisors – Eric Butterworth, Maya Angelou, Marianne Williamson, Gary Zukav, Neale Donald Walsch, Esther Hicks, Eckhart Tolle and countless others have all been similarly deceived into seeing this “new” way of looking at themselves and the world. Deceived and deceiving, they in turn convinced the Queen that she and everyone in her kingdom just needed to “shift” past their “egos” and “awaken” to the fact that they were already clothed in “Christ” – that they were already wearing this “new” suit from the New Age/New Spirituality wardrobe. All they had to do was accept and affirm the “God” and “Christ” within… Read More…

Oprah and Eckhart Do the New Age Shift – Part 3

“Now the heretics are gaining ground, doctrine is losing its authority,
    and knowing is superceding belief.”
    23
    –Marilyn Ferguson
    The Aquarian Conspiracy

“In you, as in each human being, there is a dimension of consciousness far deeper than thought. It is the very essence of who you are. We may call it presence, awareness, the unconditioned consciousness. In the ancient teachings, it is the Christ within, or your Buddha nature.”24 [bold added]
    – Eckhart Tolle
    Stillness Speaks

“As we flew home on Cathay Pacific Airlines I began to think to myself, “We are all like the clay Buddha covered with a shell of hardness created out of fear, and yet underneath each of us is a ‘golden Buddha,’ a ‘golden Christ’ or a ‘golden essence,’ which is our real self.”25 [bold added]
    – Jack Canfield’s story “The Golden Buddha”
    Chicken Soup for the Soul
Christ is your God-essence or the Self, as it is sometimes called in the East. The only difference between Christ and presence is that Christ refers to your indwelling divinity regardless of whether you are conscious of it or not, whereas presence means your awakened divinity or God-essence.”26 [bold added]
    – Eckhart Tolle
    The Power of Now

Oprah, Butterworth, Tolle and the Divinity of Man

How long has Oprah believed in this historically heretical idea that we are all one because we are all “God” and “Christ”? For sure, at least as far back as her 1987 television program on the “New Age Movement,” when she defined the New Age movement by endorsing Eric Butterworth’s book Discovering the Power Within You and reiterating his view that “Jesus did not come to teach how divine he was, but came to teach us that there is divinity within us.”27It is no wonder that Oprah came away with that point of view after reading Butterworth’s book. In Discovering the Power Within You, Butterworth uses the terminology about the divinity of man over 100 times. In this book, which Oprah described as “one of the most important books”28 that she had ever read, Butterworth writes:“We must begin to see Jesus as the great discoverer of the innate Divinity of Man, the supreme revealer of the truth about man, the pioneer and way-shower in the quest for self-realization and self-unfoldment.”29 “Jesus had a unique concept of God. To Him, God was not an object of worship but a Presence dwelling in us, a force surrounding us, and a Principle by which we live. It is not too much to say that anyone who catches the idea of Jesus’ concept will find himself caught up in a new consciousness that will change his whole life. He will never be the same again.”30“The ‘only begotten’ in spiritual man, the Christ principle, the principle of the Divinity of Man.”31

“Tradition holds that the disciples once asked Jesus, ‘When shall the Kingdom come?’ and He answered, ‘When the without shall become as the within.’ In other words – when you become in expression what you were created to be. Or, from the world view, when the race of man is elevated to the level of universal perfection.”32

Oprah, Tolle and New Age teachers are warning that our planet and our species may become extinct if we don’t have a “Great Awakening” to the reality that we are all “God” and we are all “Christ.” The real Jesus Christ warns us not to believe them. He warns that false Christs will be part of the Great Deception at the end of time. This warning definitely includes those who believe in a universal inner Christ – the “Divinity of Man.”… Read More…

    Discover the Power Within You

Several million people have already downloaded Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s webcast classes on Tolle’s new book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. Obviously this book is connecting deeply within people. Why? Because Tolle is giving very practical applications on how to be a better person and how to love your neighbor, becoming more sensitive to others and to your own life. These very practical things that he is talking about are part of the reason I was drawn into the New Age for 5 years before realizing I was being deceived. From my background, I can totally understand how people are attracted to the teachings of Eckhart Tolle. It seems so right, feels so good, and appears so wonderful. However, for all the worthy applications that Oprah and Tolle are teaching, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” (Gal 5:9).

Oprah and Tolle completely invalidate the interpersonal lessons they are teaching when they suddenly “shift” to the teaching of the “Divinity of Man,” which is the core New Age belief that man is “God” and that man is “Christ.” For whatever good Tolle and Oprah might be sharing with their audience, it is utterly undone when they build it on the foundation of the “Divinity of Man” teaching. The Lord Jesus Christ said if you build your house – no matter how nice – it’s going to fall if you build it on a foundation of sand (Matthew 7:26-27). No matter how beautiful your house, how good it feels, how nice it looks, if it is built on the wrong foundation it will fall. Of particular concern is the fact that Oprah and Tolle selectively pick Scriptures from the Bible for their own convenience and then omit the First Commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Deuteronomy 5:7).

This is the “shift.” It is a bait and switch. It is reaching people through their “felt needs,” which are genuine and real, but then tells them that they are “God” and they are “Christ.”

Oprah and Eckhart Do the New Age Shift – Part 1

    Posted by susanb99 on March 26, 2008

    From Herescope Blog:
    By Warren Smith

    “Get ready to be awakened.”[1]

    – Oprah

“The twenty-first century will be the time of awakening, of meeting The Creator Within. Many beings will experience Oneness with God and with all of life. This will be the beginning of the golden age of the New Human, of which it has been written; the time of the universal human, which has been eloquently described by those with deep insight among you.

“There are many such people in the world now – teachers and messengers. Masters and visionaries – who are placing this vision before humankind and offering tools with which to create it. These messengers and visionaries are the heralds of a New Age.”[2] [bold added]

    – “God”
    Neale Donald Walsch
    Friendship With God

“…[T]his book itself is a transformational device that has come out of the arising new consciousness. The ideas and concepts presented here may be important, but they are secondary. They are no more than signposts pointing toward an awakening. As you read a shift takes place within you.”

“This book’s main purpose is not to add new information or beliefs to your mind or to try to convince you of anything, but to bring about a shift in consciousness, that is to say, to awaken…. It will only change your state of consciousness or it will be meaningless. It can only awaken those who are ready. Not everyone is ready yet, but many are, and with each person who awakens, the momentum in the collective consciousness grows, and it becomes easier for others.”[3] [bold added]

    – Eckhart Tolle
    The New Earth

“Don’t get attached to any one word. You can substitute ‘Christ’ for presence, if that is more meaningful to you. Christ is your God-essence or the Self, as it is sometimes called in the East. The only difference between Christ and presence is that Christ refers to your indwelling divinity regardless of whether you are conscious of it or not, whereas presence means your awakened divinity or God-essence.”[4] [bold added]

    – Eckhart Tolle
    The New Earth

I stared at the huge stack of books in the Barnes & Noble bookstore. The title of the book was A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life Purpose. The title sounded like a new book by Purpose-Driven pastor Rick Warren, but it was actually the latest selection in Oprah’s Book Club. A colorful orange and blue paper band around the book invited the reader to “Join Oprah and Eckhart for a worldwide web event… Every Monday night beginning March 3, 2008 for 10 weeks… Register at Oprah.com/anewearth.” A personal message from Oprah stated: “Get ready to be awakened.”

It was clear to me that Oprah was no longer content to just popularize New Age beliefs, she would now teach them. This was a bold move by a woman who was obviously willing to do everything in her power – which is considerable – to convert the world to her New Age worldview.

    The Shift

With friend and New Age author Marianne Williamson simultaneously teaching A Course in Miracles daily on Oprah & Friends XM Satellite Radio, Oprah now offers two very public New Age classes. These classes are teaching millions of people that the way to save themselves and the planet is not by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, but rather by accepting “the Christ within.” For someone who probably has an aversion to traditional proselytizing, Oprah is giving new meaning to the word “proselytize” as she continues to push her New Age beliefs upon the world. But, in defense of her role as a New Age proselytizer, Oprah would probably be the first to tell you – it’s all for the good of the world. She would also probably argue that what she is teaching is not New Age, but a “New Spirituality.” Curiously, that just happens to be the same term that some emerging church leaders like Brian McLaren are using as they introduce New Age ideas and language into the church.[5]

Oprah can call her New Age teachings whatever she wants, but she and her ever-growing band of New Age colleagues are still teaching that “we are all one” because we are all “God” and “Christ.” As Marianne Williamson writes, “We are all one, we are love itself. ‘Accepting the Christ’ is merely a shift in self-perception.”[6]… Read More…

Oprah and Tolle Fuel New Age Revival

    Posted by susanb99 on March 25, 2008

    From Kjos Ministries:

This book’s main purpose is … to bring about a shift in consciousness…. Not everyone is ready yet, but many are, and with each person who awakens, the momentum in the collective consciousness grows.”[1,p.6-7]  Eckhart Tolle

Oprah is helping propel the spiritual enlightenment book [New Earth] to dizzying heights, thanks to an unprecedented online promotion that includes a 10-week interactive Webcast discussion…. Oprah: ‘I am a Christian who believes that there are certainly many more paths to God other than Christianity.'”[2]

“Jesus said… ‘No one comes to the Father except through Me.'” John 14:6

Remember the lasting symbols of the sixties? Beatle mania? “Free love”? The peace sign? Maharishi Yogi (the subject of John Lennon’s song, “Sexy Sadie”)?[3]

The New Age revolution seemed to fade away, didn’t it? But instead it was spreading its hidden roots across America. Now its mysticism and sexual “freedom” are back in full bloom! And countless ex-hippies — who cut their hair and joined mainstream America — are reviving Eastern meditation, yogic “breathing” and other pathways to “collective consciousness.”

This “awakening” is a natural part of the postmodern rejection of truth. Neither facts, logical thinking, nor Biblical faith are relevant to the new spirituality. So it’s not surprising that Eckhart Tolle, celebrated author of A New Earth, dismisses them all as “form” or “ego“: distracting “attachments” that block awareness of human Divinity and oneness with “God.”

Tolle’s teaching is anything but new. One of his sources of inspiration was the 13th century “father of German mysticism,” Meister Eckhart, who wrote, “He who would be serene and pure needs but one thing, detachment.”[4] It’s interesting that Tolle did “let go” of any attachment to his original first name, Ulrich. He changed it to Eckhart. To validate his message, Eckhart Tolle reinterprets history. Notice how he blends Eastern and Western mysticism — praising Zen as well as the Kabbalah:

“The greatest achievement of humanity is… the recognition of its own dysfunction, its own madness. In the distant past, this recognition already came to a few individuals. A man called Gautama Siddhartha, who lived 2,600 years ago in India, was perhaps the first who saw it with absolute clarity. Later, the title Buddha was conferred upon him. Buddha means ‘the awakened one.’”[1,p.14]

“…religions, to a large extent, became divisive rather than unifying forces. … They became ideologies, belief systems people could identify with and so use them to enhance their false sense of self. Through them, they could make themselves ‘right’ and others ‘wrong’…”[1,p.15]“…movements developed within all major religions that represented not only a rediscovery, but in some cases an intensification of the light of the original teaching. This is how Gnosticism and mysticism came into existence in early and medieval Christianity, Sufism in the Islamic religion, Hasidism and Kabbala in Judaism, Advaita Vedanta in Hinduism, Zen… in Buddhism….“Only a small minority of people had access to them. Their numbers were never large enough to have any significant impact on the deep collective unconsciousness of the majority.”[1,p.16-17]

Since the spiritual climate has changed, “enlightened” prophets expect the current awakening to reach a critical mass that will usher all of humanity (except uncompromising resisters) into the New Earth — a physical manifestation of the New Heaven (which has nothing in common with the Biblical heaven). Detached from “form,” all will know their identity as “I AM,” or universal “Consciousness.”

Of course, if you’re more comfortable with God’s Word than with occult experiences, you won’t share in this awakening. You can’t stand with one foot in each camp… Read More…

Easter: “The New Earth” or the New Life?

    Posted by susanb99 on March 22, 2008

    From Herescope:

A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH“The inspiration for the title of this book came from a Bible prophecy that seems more applicable now than at any other time in human history. It occurs in both the Old and the New Testament and speaks of the collapse of the existing world order and the arising of ‘a new heaven and a new earth.’… We need to understand here that heaven is not a location but refers to the inner realm of consciousness. This is the esoteric meaning of the word, and this is also its meaning in the teachings of Jesus. Earth, on the other hand, is the outer manifestation in form, which is always a reflection of the inner. Collective human consciousness and life on our planet are intrinsically connected. ‘A new heaven’ is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness and ‘a new earth’ is its reflection in the physical realm. Since human life and human consciousness are intrinsically one with the life of the planet, as the old consciousness dissolves, there are bound to be synchronistic geographic and climatic natural upheavals in many parts of the planet, some of which we are already witnessing now.”
–Eckhart Tolle, The New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Plume, 2005), p. 23 [emphasis in original]

The New Spirituality teaches a collective salvation of mankind based upon the restoration of paradise on earth. To recreate paradise mankind must first overcome his “collective insanity” (p. 15). This is precisely the point where a self-help psycho-spiritual message connects with the idea of saving the earth. If only mankind could get it right, then the earth will become right. Tolle explains it this way: “Recognize the ego for what it is: a collective dysfunction, the insanity of the human mind.” (p. 76)… Read More…

What is Oprah Teaching About EASTER?

    Posted by susanb99 on March 18, 2008

    From Herescope:

“The song of Easter is the glad refrain the Son of God was never crucified.”
    — “Jesus” of A Course in Miracles

During this Easter week, it is important to understand what Oprah Winfrey, Marianne Williamson and Eckhart Tolle are teaching about Jesus Christ and Easter.

This week and daily throughout this whole year, Oprah has enlisted Marianne Williamson to teach from the A Course in Miracles, on her Oprah & Friends XM Satellite Radio. A Course in Miracles is reputedly “new revelation” that was channeled from a “Jesus” through a New York psychologist by the name of Helen Schucman.

Oprah is also in the midst of a ten-week New Age Internet class that she is co-teaching with “spiritual teacher” Eckhart Tolle, which is based on his new book The New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Plume, 2006). According to Tolle, Jesus’ teaching of “salvation” means “a radical transformation of human consciousness” (p. 13) and the process of “rebirth” is “reincarnation.” (p. 252)… Read More…

Who Does Oprah Think She Is? GOD?!

    Posted by susanb99 on March 5, 2008

    From the Herescope Blog:

This question is not meant to be disrespectful. It is meant to illustrate a point. Most amazingly, Oprah Winfrey might be the first person to answer this question with a “yes.” And, if you follow Oprah closely and participate in her new endeavors you may eventually answer this question in the affirmative also.

This teaching, that we are “God,” is at the essence of the emerging global spirituality. And Oprah has just embarked upon an aggressive campaign to educate the world about it. According to a January 30th Oprah press release, she has chosen A New Earth, which is interestingly subtitled “Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose, by Eckhart Tolle, launching what is called a “pioneering venture” and “ground-breaking project” as part of a “10-part interactive Web event” to market this book to the global masses… Read more…

    Oprah Winfrey’s Spirituality

    Posted by susanb99 on February 18, 2008

    From the Lighthouse Trails Blog:

    by Ray Yungen

Without question, the most influential practical mystic today is talk show host Oprah Winfrey. Her predominantly female audience, numbering in the tens of millions, looks to her as the source of spiritual inspiration–even more so than church, in many cases…

Her talk show has launched many New Age authors into national super-stardom–authors such as Marianne Williamson, Sarah Ban Breathnach, Iyanla Vanzant, and Cheryl Richardson…

The Law of Attraction – The Secret

    Posted by susanb99 on December 16, 2007

Last year a DVD was released called “The Secret”, a motivational, self help film which is purported to change people’s lives.

What does Jesus Christ have to do with “The Secret”? Absolutely nothing. Anyone can use the method and be successful, all without Jesus Christ. According to the Lighthouse Trails Research site (Here and here), The Secret is no secret.

Rhonda Byrne, the author of The Secret, is a disciple of a couple named Jerry and Esther Hicks. In the Acknowledgements of The Secret, Byrne thanked the Hicks and the teachings of Abraham. Abraham is a group of spirit guides that Esther Hicks channels for guidance on spiritual issues…

The Secret is pure undisguised metaphysics and is the total manifestation of what the apostle Paul describes as seducing spirits (Abraham) and doctrines of devils (The Secret)…

The premise of this is that we all have a divine essence within us [the Word/Faith god-man, ed.], and we just need to get in touch with it. In other words, as panentheists teach, God is in all of creation, including all human beings, and once a person becomes aware of this, there are no limits to what he can achieve.

In the following video, Oprah says that she sang the song “I Surrender All”. Her surrender to the “savior”, part of The Secret, was what propelled her into starring in the movie “The Color Purple”. The “savior” Oprah is referring to is not Jesus Christ. She does not believe that Jesus is the Way to God — The Secret is what works for her.

     VIDEO: Oprah on Larry King

“The Secret” is rooted in the biggest lie “you shall be as gods”, uttered by satan himself in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:5). Seducing spirits, lovers of self, doctrines of demons, winds of doctrine – all those are described in the Bible as a portend of the last days, the days before Jesus’ imminent return. Be aware of the times as Jesus admonished in Mark 13 – watch and pray.

Oprah Winfrey and Marianne Williamson: Reflections on their New Age Christ

    Posted by susanb99 on December 15, 2007

    From Herescope:

On 11/8/07 New Age leader and Oprah & Friends XM Satellite reporter Marianne Williamson put up a “Big News!” announcement on her www.marianne.com website. Her announcement seemed quite confident and authoritative. She even had a link to Oprah & Friends XM Satellite Radio. She wrote:

    Big News!
Beginning January 1, 2008, I will be teaching A Course in Miracles daily on Oprah & Friends XM 156. For one year, we will go through the entire Course. If this is of interest to you, get your XM ready, take your Course off the shelf or order a copy. We’re going to do the Course, and stay the course!

On 11/09/07 Herescope posted an article by former New Age follower Warren Smith entitled Oprah and Friends to Teach Course on New Age Christ. In that article Smith presented significant concerns about Oprah & Friends teaching this New Age Course in Miracles. Many years ago he was a devoted student of A Course in Miracles and he discovered that the teachings of the Course – supposedly “new revelation” channeled from “Jesus” – were diametrically opposed to the teachings of the true Jesus Christ of the Bible. He came to understand that the “Jesus” of A Course in Miracles was one of the false christs that the real Jesus warned His followers to watch out for:

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (Matthew 24:3-5)

Shortly after the posting of Smith’s article and the two subsequent articles on Herescope, there was considerable concern – at least in Christian circles – that Oprah was using her radio program to teach this New Age Course. Many Internet sources cited what was happening. Amidst the uproar, Marianne Williamson’s “Big News!” announcement suddenly disappeared from her website. All attempts to get information on why Williamson withdrew her announcement were to no avail.

However, Marianne Williamson has just posted a new announcement on her website that seems to take the place of the “Big News!” announcement of several days ago:

Starting January 1 on Oprah and Friends XM156, I will be discussing my daily reflections on A Course in Miracles. Watch this space for details.

Send me any questions you have about A Course in Miracles and its application to your daily life. Some of these questions will be used on my radio show. (Be sure to include your phone number.)…

    Reinventing Jesus Christ

    Posted by susanb99 on December 14, 2007

    Online book by Warren Smith

     Reinventing Jesus Christ

    Excerpt from the book:

In brief, A Course In Miracles teaches that all is love… According to the Course, love is all there is. And because God is love, God is therefore in everyone and everything. Because God is sinless, perfect, and “at one” with all creation, then we, as a part of God, are also sinless and perfect in our “oneness” with Him. Man’s only “sin” is not remembering his own perfect, sinless, divine nature… (page 10)
